It has been a special year, as La Salle College celebrates her 90th Anniversary. There is a lot for us to report and share, and my editors have put them together. I hope you enjoy reading this edition of LSCOBA Express.

There will be a lot of events on campus in July. The Annual General Meeting of LSCOBA will be held at 2:00pm on 23 July (Saturday). The Christian Brothers’ Cup 2022 will also take place on 24 & 31 July (Sundays).  Looking forward to seeing you all.

Take care, stay safe, and let’s march on!

Yours in La Salle,

The College organised a few events in the past couple of months. The LSC 90th Anniversary Founder’s Day Homecoming took place on 14 May, marking the launch of the Aerospace Exhibition and the Virtual Campus Tour.

The 90th Anniversary Concert: ‘The Lasallian Polyphony’ was held on 29 May, featuring musical performances by talented musicians from both La Salle College and La Salle Primary School, as well as spectacular dance and drama performances to delight the audience. Special thanks to our performers from LSCOBA Music Board! A full house of Lasallians celebrated the momentous occasion in high spirits.

On 6 July, the Mass of Thanksgiving and Hope was held at the Hong Kong Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. The celebrant was the Most Reverend Stephen Chow, the Bishop of Hong Kong.

For the Sporty Souls

First things first – Sunday sports facilities at school are now reopened for booking!

Users may now make reservations through our online booking system. Please note that vaccine pass and pre-registration requirements apply.

Step by step, we are on the way to having our sports functions back.

LSCOBA Basketball League 2022 Final was held on 29 May, where Old Boys competed with the current school team. Recordings of live broadcasts are available on LSCOBA’s facebook page. On June 10, we supported our young athletes at the long-awaited Inter-school Athletics Competition Finals.

We are also trying something new.

On 17 July, together with our ultimate frisbee enthusiast Brother Dennis, the Lasallian Ultimate Hong Kong Pick-Up Game was held at the School’s soccer field. Looking forward to another game in the near future!

Taking Care of Each Other

On 27 March, OBA organised, in partnership with PTA, an online talk on “Tips on COVID-19 Pandemic”, with a focus on care for the young and the elderly, as well as the mental health related aspects.

For current students, the “LSCOBA Career Talks” this year was held from March to May, featuring eight career areas: Medicine & Dentistry, Business Start-ups, Legal, Science & Research, Banking & Finance, Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy, Nursing & Speech Therapy, as well as IT, AI & Engineering. The talks were well received by the students and we noted higher levels of interest in some non-traditional professions.

Two more programs for students have been confirmed with the School’s Careers Team – Job Shadowing and Interview Workshop, which will be launched during the shortened summer holidays in August. Furthermore, new career workshops have been proposed to the School’s Careers Team for the next school term.

We would like to thank all Old Boys speakers, teachers and students for the participation.

For young alumni, the Mentorship Program 2022 was rolled out in March, in continuous effort to provide guidance and support towards personal and career development of our younger generations.

A new column “Guide to University” is now open on the LSCOBA website, where alumni share about their experiences and learning journeys at universities. If you wish to contribute, please contact Jason Fong (17) through [email protected].

On Governance

The enhancement of governance is one of the LSCOBA Committee’s pledges to the Old Boys.

Alumni Manager Election – In order to increase transparency and facilitate participation by Old Boys, a set of rules of procedures has been adopted, after research and discussion with school management and an open consultation. We would like to thank all who have contributed in the process.

LSCOBA Committee Election – An online briefing session was held for interested members before commencement of the nomination period. The session covered the procedure and timeline of the election, preparations needed, and duties of LSCOBA Office-bearers and Committee members.

Alumni teams of the 5 Christian Brothers Schools (Chan Sui Ki, Chong Gene Hang, De La Salle Sec Sch, St Joseph’s & us) will play against each other. Please come and support our players!

In March, we attended the Hong Kong Lasallian Family Sector Conversation, held in preparation for the Lasallian East Asia District (LEAD) Mission Assembly 2022. As part of the Lasallian Family, educators and alumni shared and learnt from each other on the promotion of Lasallian values.

The Lasallian Mission Fund Annual Raffle was held in June, in support of the Christian Brothers’ programmes.
