Dear Old Boy Members,
Having been serving the current term for over 5 months, I would like to give you a brief report of LSCOBA including the major events held as well as the coming scheduled activities.
It is important for OBA to create and bring values to its members, who may then see the benefits for joining the Association. Since the inception of the new term in July 2016, a number of OBA events have taken place and some of them are exclusive to OBA members. Overseen by the Sports Subcommittee (Convenor: Herman Bo 89), the Old Boys’ Soccer League (Convenor: James Yu 90) has started while the Basketball league (Convenor: Drago Chan 87) has resumed this season and kicked off in August 2016, with 8 teams competing in regular and playoff games. The LSC Old Boys’ Concert 2016 (Convenor: Martin So 04) held on 17 September 2016 was the very first OBA homecoming event where we had both the new principals, Mr. Tong W. S. from La Salle College, and Mrs. Chandni Rakesh from La Salle Primary School, with us as our guests of honour. What’s more, this is the first time we had the OBA press release (Publicity Convenor: Yick Ping Fai 96) publicized in a few local newspapers.
As for the Heritage Cup 2016 held on 30 September 2016, our Old Boy golf team led by captain IPP Leonard Chu (83) fought hard and retained the trophy for ourselves this year. We also hosted a roundtable dinner (Convenor: Ray Sun 85) on 2 November 2016 with senior old boy Mr. Peter Wong 王冬勝先生 (1970) as guest speaker giving our members an insightful talk. Other events including Job Shadowing (Convenor: Stanley Shum 79), Monthly Happy Hours (Convenor: Eric Chow 00), Doctors of La Salle Dinner (Convenor: Thomas Fung 96) as well as Winter Golf event (Convenor: Thomas Tung 77) were successfully held to serve our members or support the students. We also provided souvenir sales (Convenor: Claudio Chan 08) and reunion gathering (Convenor: Stanley Shum 84) support for old boys of different classes at the school hall. Our Investment Subcommittee (Convenor: Alan Lui 79), one of the 22 OBA Subcommittees which was established this term, took the lead to review and study how we can generate the best return financially to OBA in support of the School and student development.
Besides putting the efforts to increase the value and benefits for OBA members, I have done a few actions to enhance the communication and transparency of OBA such as rejuvenating the OBA website lscoba.com feeding with the latest OBA events as well as initiating a regular email notice to keep members abreast of our news and activities. We also make use of our Facebook Group “La Salle Old Boys’ Ties” to dispatch OBA news and connect with old boys instantly, allowing users to share Lasallian news too. Last but not least, I created a couple of Whatsapp groups with class coordinators of different years from 1956 to 2013 and Overseas Chapters to promote fraternity and exchange views on Lasallian issues.
Going forward, there are lots of activities we have planned to serve you as our members, including but not limited to the coming LSCOBA Annual Ball 2016: Night of the Legends (Ball Chairman: Terence Mak 97), the photo competition featuring “La Salle Spirit” (Convenor: Edison Siu 08), the revamped credit card program (Convenor: David Leung 81), the launch of Members’ Benefit Platform (Convenor: Gilbert Fung 98), and the community service program (Convenor: Robert Lui 95).
