Legal Network Round Table Dinner ‘24

It is with great enthusiasm that we extend to you an invitation to the much-anticipated Legal Network Round Table Dinner, following an eight-year interlude.

This esteemed event, first launched in July 2013 and again graced in February 2016, has consistently offered a platform for distinguished Old Boys to share their insights as guest speakers. Past events have been honored with the presence of Deputy High Court Judge David Lok (82) (as his Lordship then was) and Mr Wesley Wong SC (87), then Solicitor-General of Hong Kong S.A.R.

This year, we are privileged to host Mr Samuel Chan (83), the Chairman of the Competition Commission, who will enlighten us with his talk on “Competition Law – an Advantage for Hong Kong? (香港勝在有競爭法?)” Mr Chan’s discussion will encompass:

  • A foundational overview of Hong Kong’s competition law
  • The protective measures competition law offers to consumers and businesses alike
  • The broader impact of competition law on our economy

Mr Chan is a practising barrister and has been appointed to many advisory and statutory bodies. Currently he is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Competition Commission, Member of the Operations Review Committee of the Independent Commission Against Corruption and Member of the Working Group on Class Actions. He was also former Vice-Chairman of the Consumer Council, Non-Executive Director of the Insurance Authority, Member of the Equal Opportunities Commission, Chairman of the Consumer Legal Action Fund Management Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Town Planning Appeal Board.

In 2020, Mr Chan was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in recognition of his significant contribution to the promotion of consumer interests. Mr Chan is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators and a Panel Arbitrator of the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration.

The dinner will convene on 13 June, 2024, at The China Club Hong Kong, 13/F Old Bank of China Building, 1 Bank Street, Central, starting at 7 pm for a 7:30 pm commencement. The participation fee is set at HKD1,000 per person.

A special rate of HKD700 is offered to Young Old Boys who graduated from 2014 onwards, as part of our commitment to fostering the next generation of legal professionals.

This event would not have been possible without Mr Tony Ko (Class of ’98) who graciously assisted in securing the venue.

We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to reconnect with many of you at this prestigious gathering. Let’s come together to celebrate our shared heritage and gain insights from one of our most distinguished Old Boys.
