It’s Our 70th Anniversary!

Dear Fellow Old Boys,
During the traditionally quiet summer months of July and August, the Association has kept busy with several projects in the works and making preparations to celebrate our 70th anniversary in addition to the regular yearly events like participation in the school’s New Comers’ Day etc.

The renovation project of the school’s track and field is progressing smoothly after several delays by incremental weather during a summer of typhoons and is expected to be completed by the latter part of September. Upon the recommendation by a group of old boys who have been over many years very much involved in training the school teams and sports development in LSC, the OBA made a proposal to the school to also cover the two “wing quadrants” on both ends of the tennis court with the same 4th G artificial turf used on the field. These sections will be used for specific training exercises and drills (like goalkeepers training), players warming up etc. The OBA will be responsible for coming up with the extra funds necessary. Thanks to the generosity and support of the class of 79, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary, and the soccer teams of the OBA league, their contributions made up 2/3 of the budget needed with the balance to be paid by the Sports Development Fund maintained by the Association, the project was approved and installation will be completed before end of the year.

On a similar note, we are appealing to classes who are celebrating their anniversaries to actively consider making a donation to support our beloved Alma Mater and the Association is more than happy to assist in matching the donations to specific areas of needs of the school. Moreover, for those classes who are looking for venues to hold their reunion gatherings, the school hall can be the perfect place; the OBA is pleased to offer our assistance in making the necessary arrangements with the school. The very successful Mentorship Program will be expanded this year to include the accounting and finance professions (in addition to medical and legal professions) and the initiation dinner is scheduled to be held in early October. Last but certainly not least, as I mentioned earlier, this is the 70th Anniversary of LSCOBA. For those in the know, the Association was started in 1939 with the unreserved support and blessing of our founder and first Principal, Rev. Bro. Aimar. A series of celebratory events will be organized to mark this very special milestone including the 70th Anniversary Gala Dinner Ball which will be held on 21st November 2009 (Saturday) in the Hong Kong Country Club, please look out for further details in upcoming announcements.

We have come a long way, my fellow Lasallians, let’s celebrate in style!
