LSCOBA 2000 Spring Golf Tournament

The 12th golf outing organized by the Association was held at Palm Island Golf Club, Huizhou( ´f¦{ ), China on 26th May 2000. With a few last minute withdrawal due to business commitments or injury, there were still 32 La Salle old boys who turned up for this event.

Our chartered coach left Queen's Pier in Central at 6:45 a.m. After we had crossed the Chinese border, Lok Hing Sun (82) joined us in his "Pajero" and led us all the way to the golf club. I am sure most of the participating old boys would agree with me that the condition of Palm Island at the moment was excellent and indeed one could hardly find another golf course in this part of Guangdong nowadays that allows golf carts to go on the fairway (forgive my ignorance if I am wrong).

Tony Cheung (77) (the footballers and badminton players in the mid-70s would probably know him by his nickname ·àÀY rather than his real name) shot his personal best, a round of 79, which earned him an incredible 49 Stableford points to become the Champion. This is also the lowest gross score and the highest score of Stableford points in the history of our golf events. The winners are as follows :-

Champion Tong Cheung (77)
Second Caesar To (83)
Third John Ribeiro (78)
Best Front Nine Johnny Chan (78)
Best Back Nine Dale Chan (75)
Longest Drive Johnny Chan (78)
Nearest Pin George Chan (78) X2
Robert Chang (77)
Thomas Tung (77)

In accordance with the Albert Ma's Rules originated from Albert Ma (78), we had donations of HK$4,250 from Tony Cheung and HK$2,000 from Caesar To for our future events.

My special thanks to Thomas Tung who has spent a lot of time to work on his PC to keep all the data of our golf events (so he deserved the nearest pin trophy, right?), to Peter Kong (75) for being our official photographer, to Dominic Tse (78) who has acted as our tournament director since our Bangkok tour, and to Paul Law (78) who arranged all the trophies (although unfortunately he was injured during jogging just 5 days before the event and had no chance at all to be a contender this time). We all wish Paul to have a speedy recovery.

See you in our next outing.

Roger Wong (75)
