Mentorship Program
October 16, 2007
Dear fellow Lasallians,
I am pleased to announce that the Young Members' Section Task Force and the Alumni Development Subcommittee of the LSCOBA will jointly organize a Mentorship Program (the "Program") this year for the benefits of the young members of the LSCOBA (the "YM").
The main objective of this Program is to provide a platform for the YMs to meet and learn from our senior old boys in their own professions. I am sure you would agree that we have many old boys who are the leaders in various professions. While the senior old boys are happy to share their experiences and the YMs are eager to learn, there have not been channels to bring them together. Hence, the Young Members' Section and the Alumni Development subcommittee saw the need and have devised this program after much planning.
The details of the Program are as follows:
Mentorship Program
The program will run from early November 2007 to June 2008.
Mentors:
- Legal
- Medical
As it is the first year of organizing this Program, we will start with the above 2 professions as a pilot program and will expand the Program to include more professions in the future if this pilot is successful. We have already invited a group of old boy lawyers and old boy doctors to be mentors (the "Mentors") of the Program.
Mentees:
We are planning to invite around 50 YMs (who are current university students in Hong Kong), 25 from the law schools and 25 YMs from the medical schools (the "Mentees").
Owing to the fact that most of the activities in the Program will be held in Hong Kong, we regret that YMs who are studying overseas will not be accommodated at this pilot, but we will plan on how to cover these YMs if there is a clear demand. Nevertheless, overseas YMs studying Medicine or Law are more than welcome to join our activities if they happen to be in Hong Kong when we have our gatherings. Moreover, if you need any help/advice, you can email me at ericchow2000
at your convenience and I shall forward your questions to the Mentors.
Proposed activities:
- November 2, 2007 - Opening
There will be an opening gathering on the Friday evening, where Mentors and Mentees will be introduced to each other and a brief introduction of the Program will also be given to them.
- Mid-February, 2008- Lunar new year gathering
A Chinese New Year lunch gathering will be organized.
- June, 2008 - Closing
A round table dinner will be held to conclude the Program. The format is to be confirmed.
In between the abovementioned 3 functions, the Mentors and Mentees will decide on how and when they are going to meet up. The organizing committee will ask for feedback and follow up with them from time to time.
YMs who are interested in joining the Program should download the application form and return the completed form by October 26, 2007. Should you have any questions in relation to the Program, please feel free to contact me at ericchow2000
.
Looking forward to meeting you soon!
With best regards,
Eric Chow (2000)
