Feast Day of St John Baptist De La Salle

La Salle College and Lasallians worldwide celebrate the Feast Day of St John Baptist De La Salle, the Founder of Lasallian Education Institutions and the Patron Saint of all Teachers on 15th May. LSC is holding a range of events during the week of 11th May, called Foundersˇ¦ Week. Events include an exhibition on the life of de La Salle, a Quiz and also a Feast Day School Mass, with a school holiday on Friday, the Feast Day. All teachers of the school are invited to a traditional Founders Week lunch on Thursday. The OBA is honoured to be hosting the buffet lunch on 14th May, which is a gesture to give thanks to the teachers for their hard work throughout the year. Funding for the lunch is from rebates generated from the LSCOBA Credit Card program, through spending incurred by card holders. The OBA is therefore very grateful to all old boys for using their LSCOBA Credit Card, who are indirectly supporting the school and our teachers in some small ways.

7th April is in fact the original Feast Day of St John Baptist de La Salle, and also the day of his death. However, since the date often coincides with the Holy Week and Easter Season (which takes precedence to a saintˇ¦s Feast Day) the celebrations are traditionally held within the Lasallian communities on 11th May instead. In fact, de La Salle died on 7th April 1719, which was Good Friday in that year.

Letˇ¦s take a moment to offer a simple prayer to our Founder this week:

Well-known Founder of the Congregation of the Brothers of Christian Schools, orthodox and prayerful theologian, you realized the very great value of competent Christian educators. How great your wholesome influence has been! Make your followers continue to be Christ-like models for all their students who in turn will edify others. Amen.

St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.

Live Jesus in our hearts, forever.

As we celebrate the Feast Day of our Founder, here is a passage about St John Baptist de La Salle, and his works and prayer.
